Robinson-Mahoney Stationary Catalyst Basket Reactor

Annular catalyst basket is rotated on a shaft to move the catalyst through the reactants.

Popular reactor design circulates liquid reactants past a stationary catalyst bed. Impellers (1,000 rpm) draw fluid into the center of an annular catalyst basket. The multiphase reactor design is used for time based, laboratory, high temperature & high pressure heterogeneous catalysis experiments with gas /liquid / solid phase reactants Use internal recycle reactors & vary reaction time for catalyst activation, catalyst regeneration, & catalyst durability(catalyst life) studies

FEATURES

  • Pressure ratings vary by vessel capacity; 5,400 psig (372 bar) for 300 cm3 & 5,800 psig (400 bar) for 1,000 cm3

  • Temperature rating for both vessel capacities is 650°F (343°C); for diverse catalytic chemical reactions

  • 316SS is standard; other chemical / petrochemical resistant alloys are offered, (e.g. HASTELLOY® C-276)

  • The design conforms to the ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code Section VIII Division 1: An ASME code stamp is optional

  • The impellers are spun by a 1,000 rpm MagneDrive® magnetic drive that eliminates dynamic seals for worry free circulation

  • Retain the solid catalyst in a stationary, woven wire mesh basket to allow gas / liquid circulation with low pressure drop

  • Circulating the reactants past the catalyst's active surface avoids wearing & breakage (attrition) for accurate scale-up

  • The reactor can be used for continuous flow catalytic reactions (using internal overflow tube as the outlet) for fluids

  • Optional process control instrumentation measures & controls temperature, impeller speed & pressure

  • Obtain expert, catalytic equipment advice from the manufacturer & ongoing support from the local, factory approved supplier

    BENEFITS

The Robinson-Mahoney reactor is a gradientless reactor design that is basic equipment for advancing the science of combined gas/ liquid / solid phase(supported) heterogeneous catalyst technology. This high pressure laboratory apparatus can be used for diverse catalyst research including catalyst screening, catalyst characterization, & surface chemistry studies. The leak-free metal gasket design provides bench-scale catalytic synthesis capability for scientific experimentation.
